Wedding Hashtag & Photo Wall Ideas Guests Actually Use
Want every guest's photo on the big screen? See the Live Wall →
A good wedding hashtag is short, easy to spell and unused, like your names plus the year (#MayaAndElias2026) or a simple pun on your surname. But hashtags only catch photos from guests who post publicly on Instagram, which is often a minority. To actually collect everyone's photos, pair your hashtag with a live photo wall: guests scan a QR code at the venue, upload, and see their photos appear on the big screen within seconds.
How to create a wedding hashtag
- Start with your names: #MayaAndElias, #EliasAndMaya2026
- Add the year or city: #MayaElias2026, #MayaEliasBeirut
- Try a surname pun: "Khoury" → #KhouryAfterAll, #HappilyEverKhoury
- Check it's unused: search it on Instagram first. If it already has posts, add the year.
- Keep it easy to type: no double letters that confuse, no hard spellings.
Ideas by style
| Style | Examples |
|---|---|
| Names + year | #MayaAndElias2026 · #LaraRami26 |
| Surname pun | #HappilyEverKhoury · #NassarNow |
| Destination | #MayaEliasInBatroun · #ByblosBound |
| Short & sweet | #MEforever · #LaraSaidYes |
| Arabic | #عرس_مايا_وإيلي · #مايا_وإيلي٢٠٢٦ |
For Arabic hashtags, use an underscore between words (#عرس_مايا_وإيلي), because spaces break hashtags.
The problem with hashtags alone
- Private accounts don't show up under a hashtag, even when guests use it.
- Many guests never post, especially older relatives.
- Photos get compressed, and videos are cropped.
- The hashtag is public: anyone can see, or add, posts under it.
That's why most couples get only a fraction of their guests' photos through a hashtag.
Photo wall ideas that get every guest sharing
- A live photo wall. Guests scan a QR code, upload from their phone, and their photos appear on the venue screen in seconds. Nothing gets everyone sharing like seeing their photo on the big screen.
- "Then and now." Mix baby and childhood photos of the two of you into the slideshow before guests' photos start appearing.
- Table challenge. Each table card asks for a different shot: "best dance move", "a selfie with the bride's grandmother", "the cake before it's cut".
- Photo booth corner. Props, a backdrop and the QR code right beside it, so booth photos go straight to the wall.
- Countdown moments. Ask the MC to call for photos at key moments: the entrance, the first dance, the cake.
- Late-night reel. Replay the best of the night's photos on the screen before the last song.
Where to put your hashtag and QR code
- Table cards and the welcome sign
- The bar and the photo booth
- A quick announcement by the MC after dinner
- The thank-you message after the wedding, so late uploads still arrive
